EXHIBITION

is a proposal for a transportable roof system that can be adapted to diverse site configurations. The basic unit consists of aluminum wings symmetrically arranged like a bow tie on top of a round column with a diameter of 90 millimeters. The units are joined together to form a hexagon-based roof plan. Openings of different configurations such as circles, star-shapes and flower-shapes can be created, depending on the configuration of the aluminum wings. A roof that offers protection from rain while introducing a suitable amount of daylight is formed by setting transparent pneumatic membrane tents on those roof openings. The transparent pneumatic membrane tents are balloons that are kept inflated by a compressor. The outline of the roof can take on a configuration as complex as the coastline of an island and thus adapt to any future site condition.
